If you like large scale RC warbirds you should of been to the Warbirds over the Rockies airshow. If you did not. Then you better subscribe to RC universe's YouTube channel to get all the action! I did!
Plantraco Microflight, a remote control airplane and blimp company is selling a "as seen on CNN" "balloon boy" blimp kit for $19.99. So you to can enjoy a piece of the action!
Thought I'll show you two fully sick RC videos that I found recently. That are a cut above the rest of the "normal" RC flying or driving videos you usually find online. Enjoy!
I have have just finished installing my new NOVAK 10.5 brushless motor combo, Pro-line Bow ties and the milled out aluminum mount just for a little bling. It is lighter than the stock though!
Moved the battery farther back, changed the suspension settings to what I saw everyone else using at the pits the other night and cleaned it up.
Gave it a quick test before the sun went down in the backyard. Very impressed. It has heaps of traction, nice power band off the start and no more brushes! The brakes are a bit sensitive to my liking but that can be fixed.
Overall money well spent and can't wait to race the "big boys". Stay tuned!
The place I bought all my stuff from was AMainHobbies. Who I can't praise enough. Stupid fast shipping, awesome products, good variety and they gave me a free T-shirt!
Well Friday night was my transition from a basher to a racer. (I'll still bash my HPI Baja though). I had been a basher for a very long time and had always wanted to start racing but..... you know how it goes life holds you back.
But when I first saw the 1/10th scale CORR RC trucks come onto the market. I knew straight away it was time to pull finger and do it!
What can I say? It was fully sick fun. Awesome track, awesome people and I can't wait till Friday night! So how did it go...
Firstly the CORR truck class at my club is huge. It had to be broken into 2 mains. I pretty sure there were about 18 CORR trucks in total! Not including the three that raced in the novice class. One of which was me.
The format consisted of 3 5min qualifiers and then 5min final. I came 6th in the first qualifier, 2nd in the 2nd qualifier and 6th in the third qualifier ( this was due to radio interference.....seriously,it's not a excuse:) My grid position for the final was 5th.
Guess what I came? 3rd!!!! I was on the podium. I was really happy with that. Considering the novice class consisted of buggys and truggys that have more power and a lot more traction. I never used more than half throttle. The track was really hard packed making the RC truck a real handful to drive. They are a lot harder to control than any other class by far. What made my night though, was the club president approached me and said next Friday night I'm with the big boys no more novice class for me!!! ( did someone say the next Adam Drake :)
So what did I learn. Firstly bring mosquito spray and get descent tires for better traction. I have just finished putting in a order for Pro lines Bow ties, a 10.5 brushless system, pinion and spur gears and spare set of A-arms. Then a 2.4GHz radio system so I won't be able to make excuses. Overall a great night and no regrets.
This Friday night I will be moving up from a basher to a racer. In both driving skills and in the wallet! It will be my first time racing a RC car or more precisely the RC CORR truck class. That has become the biggest class at my local RC club.
This is a good thing, so at least I can hide my terrible driving skills amongst the masses. But I did find two very informative articles. One giving advice on how to approach club racing. In terms of rules, regulation and the few d@#kheads that you may come across.
The other article shows you methods of practicing and "thinking" like you're in the car.
The advice and practice methods have helped me, I think anyway. But the true test is coming. I'll let you know how I go!
Here's a first in the world of RC jets. A jet turbine powered RC jet that takes off and lands on water. That was recently flown at the Joe Nall RC flying event.
I say "true" RC flying Cyborg bugs, because for the first time ever. The clever RC'ers have been able to control a cyborg bug from a distance. Using real RC principles.
This is a massive advancement, instead of controlling a bug without a wire attached to its butt we have seen in the past, feeding it the signals.
I don't really know what to say. Imagine buying a $68,000 car, a Hummer to be precise and turning it into the ultimate RC offroad car. Fully sick stuff!!
The Evolution of RC Airplanes with Guns
Posted by Deano Labels: Radio Control Airplanes with weaponsFor those of us who follow military "stuff". Or more preferably RC airplanes with guns on them. Or the politically correct term, UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles).
In the world of RC FPV (first person view), the king would have to be VRflyer. He has been at the forefront of RC FPV flying. Starting with the humble Multiplex EasyStar, then to a fully aerobatic Yak and now to a EDF powered F-16!
No words could describe what work, skill, time, patience and money goes into something like this. I mean look at the cockpit and heads up display. I bet if you were to show your wife, girlfriend or non-rc'er this video they would thing it was the "real"thing...
I hope you will be inspired after this video....I was!

For all you RC Apple fanboys out there. In New York to be precise. Here's a aerial video of the new Apple store under construction. Using a RC helicopter and probably a iPhone :)
Enjoy!
At the recent Big Bird fly-In, where large scale RC airplanes converge annually at the Bomber Field USA. Mac Hodges put his beautifully scaled B-29 threw it's paces. With low fly by's,flat spins and barrel rolls all happening, also using a smoke system to add more drama to the fully sickness of the demo.
Whats Unique about this RC bomber is the ability for it to carry a fully functional RC X-1 that Chuck Yeager used to break the sound barrier and seeing the model pilots to bail out when Mac brings in his B-29 inches above the deck.
Fully sick stuff!
Here's another flying event I missed. If you did. Here's a good report on what we missed.
Anyone who has ever tried to fly RC helicopters knows how hard, expensive and frustrating it can be. If you're really keen you do a bit of research before hand and find the co-axial type RC helicopters are the easiest to fly. Which they are.
But after a few flights you do get bored of flying under the dinner table or chasing the cat. So..... you move on to the next skill level, to a micro fixed pitch traditional RC helicopter.
Which I bet in under 5 seconds you would have crashed, breaking linkages, swash plates and puncturing the LIPO. You either spend the money on spares or you give up. I chose the second option.
I haven't brought it yet but E-flites ultra-micro Blade mSR looks to fill the need for the wannabe RC helicopter pilot to transition into flying a more traditional helicopter a lot easier than most micro RC helicopters out there. If you have owned any E-flite product, you know it's quality. These guys seem to think so and I think I'll give it a go.
The future aerospace and aeronautical engineers of Standford University have set the altitude record for a 5kg or less airplane that flew fully automated to a height of 7,142 feet. But this is only the tip of the accomplishment.
The UAV and wannabe Burt Rutans not only had to deal with mother nature and software glitches but the red tape for their UAV to fly above the 400ft limit.

Here's a video of the recent Traxxas TORC short course truck racing event. Edited and filmed by RC Car Action.
This video has heaps of fully sick coverage of the trucks and drivers doing their thing, including a full scale size RC CORR truck being driven around and a interview with the guy that owns Traxxas and races. Lucky bugger!
It has a been a busy week/weekend for RC flying events. With the Fly for Tots RC flying event that raises money for kids and the N.E.A.T Fair all happening.
Hope a few of you got to go. For the rest of us suckers, its a thank-you to RCGroups (again) for providing some fully sick coverage!
Nic Case's previous RC car speed record of 161.34mph has been broken! By a custom made RC rocket car powered by NOS that was clocked at 163.51mph!
Made by a guy who was obsessed over the record for a few years. Trying different methods to get the record, such as putting a big motor on a small chassis or building a twin motor system. But eventually he came up with the custom made rocket car called Black Knight, that gave him his dream.
This guy is a true fully sick RC'er, Well done!
