I don't really know what to say. Imagine buying a $68,000 car, a Hummer to be precise and turning it into the ultimate RC offroad car. Fully sick stuff!!

For those of us who follow military "stuff". Or more preferably RC airplanes with guns on them. Or the politically correct term, UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles).

Being inside a RC F-16!

In the world of RC FPV (first person view), the king would have to be VRflyer. He has been at the forefront of RC FPV flying. Starting with the humble Multiplex EasyStar, then to a fully aerobatic Yak and now to a EDF powered F-16!

No words could describe what work, skill, time, patience and money goes into something like this. I mean look at the cockpit and heads up display. I bet if you were to show your wife, girlfriend or non-rc'er this video they would thing it was the "real"thing...

I hope you will be inspired after this video....I was!

RC Apple Fanboys

For all you RC Apple fanboys out there. In New York to be precise. Here's a aerial video of the new Apple store under construction. Using a RC helicopter and probably a iPhone :)
Enjoy!

At the recent Big Bird fly-In, where large scale RC airplanes converge annually at the Bomber Field USA. Mac Hodges put his beautifully scaled B-29 threw it's paces. With low fly by's,flat spins and barrel rolls all happening, also using a smoke system to add more drama to the fully sickness of the demo.

Whats Unique about this RC bomber is the ability for it to carry a fully functional RC X-1 that Chuck Yeager used to break the sound barrier and seeing the model pilots to bail out when Mac brings in his B-29 inches above the deck.
Fully sick stuff!

2009 NEAT Fair Coverage

Here's another flying event I missed. If you did. Here's a good report on what we missed.

Anyone who has ever tried to fly RC helicopters knows how hard, expensive and frustrating it can be. If you're really keen you do a bit of research before hand and find the co-axial type RC helicopters are the easiest to fly. Which they are.

But after a few flights you do get bored of flying under the dinner table or chasing the cat. So..... you move on to the next skill level, to a micro fixed pitch traditional RC helicopter.
Which I bet in under 5 seconds you would have crashed, breaking linkages, swash plates and puncturing the LIPO. You either spend the money on spares or you give up. I chose the second option.

I haven't brought it yet but E-flites ultra-micro Blade mSR looks to fill the need for the wannabe RC helicopter pilot to transition into flying a more traditional helicopter a lot easier than most micro RC helicopters out there. If you have owned any E-flite product, you know it's quality. These guys seem to think so and I think I'll give it a go.

The future aerospace and aeronautical engineers of Standford University have set the altitude record for a 5kg or less airplane that flew fully automated to a height of 7,142 feet. But this is only the tip of the accomplishment.

The UAV and wannabe Burt Rutans not only had to deal with mother nature and software glitches but the red tape for their UAV to fly above the 400ft limit.

Here's a video of the recent Traxxas TORC short course truck racing event. Edited and filmed by RC Car Action.

This video has heaps of fully sick coverage of the trucks and drivers doing their thing, including a full scale size RC CORR truck being driven around and a interview with the guy that owns Traxxas and races. Lucky bugger!

Coverage of RC flying events.

It has a been a busy week/weekend for RC flying events. With the Fly for Tots RC flying event that raises money for kids and the N.E.A.T Fair all happening.

Hope a few of you got to go. For the rest of us suckers, its a thank-you to RCGroups (again) for providing some fully sick coverage!

Nic Case's previous RC car speed record of 161.34mph has been broken! By a custom made RC rocket car powered by NOS that was clocked at 163.51mph!

Made by a guy who was obsessed over the record for a few years. Trying different methods to get the record, such as putting a big motor on a small chassis or building a twin motor system. But eventually he came up with the custom made rocket car called Black Knight, that gave him his dream.

This guy is a true fully sick RC'er, Well done!

Here's something to help the kids become addicted to the world of RC. A RC car racing game that they can play on the PlayStation 3.

Personally it looks more like a arcade-style game to me. Than a true RC simulator. It's about time though, someone comes up with a true life RC car simulator like the RealFlight series for RC airplanes.
I think it would do quite well considering RC cars are the most popular from of RC and helps convert bashers to possible racers. ( like me!!!! ).

Anyway, when it rains and I'm desperate to drive something RC, this game will do it....

Large Scale RC Mayhem

This past week or two. The large scale versions of RC cars and RC airplanes have had a get together.

Firstly it was the Bajafest 2009, which was total mayhem and then the 2009 Heart of Ohio Huckfest, which is all about giant scale 3D capable RC airplanes doing their thing. Wish I was there...

Anyway, there should be enough video and pics of these two events to keep you and I going for awhile...Enjoy!

RC Rally Car Racing!

RC rally car racing doesn't seem to be that big in the RC car racing scene. Why? Maybe because you have to follow/run after your RC car instead of standing up on a rostrum driving in circles!

As you can see in the video these guys take their RC rally racing very seriously. Using the exact same rules and regulations the full scale rally cars use. From the 1/10 scale looking rally cars, complete with sponsor stickers to even small scale bridges and churches to drift around. This form of RC car racing is certainty not for the unskilled or overweight.....

P.S note who wins the rally.......... :) (notice how he doesn't have a gut on him)

II. Oakwood Rally from Karlos on Vimeo.

For those of us that crave anything RC related. Check these guys out. They compress a variety of RC events, tips and tricks, how to's, reviews and other"cool" RC stuff. Into a half hour video, that will definitely feed your RC hunger. To combat the thirst thou, you'll have to grab a couple of your own beers:)

Yet another RC flying event I managed to miss..... The E-Jets International. A electric only RC jet event that brings RC jet enthusiasts from around the world together to show how the gas turbine powered RC jets are going to become obsolete.

For coverage click here!

As we all know I plan to start RC car or better yet short course truck racing. Using the Team Associated SC10 as my starting platform. I was surfing the net and forums the other day, to see what fellow RC'ers do to their SC10 to make it a better performer on the track.

What I found was a two part video series, showing what can be done to the short course truck to make it a that much better. Take note!

If you're tired of watching low quality RC YouTube videos. Then check these guy's out. They produce High Definition quality video of every RC event you can think of, and also throw in the mix a few bikini wearing "RC tolerant" women!

We all know the days of the fighter jocks are over. It's the geeks and RC'ers of this world that are becoming the future jocks. That don't need to be fit, don't need a invasive medical test and can rush home after work and carry on playing World Of War Craft!

It's not all sunshine and roses though. To become a unmanned aerial pilot it takes alot work and determination and it still requires that "humble" test get a accurate temperature of your body:)

I thought this would be a interesting read. It's Popular Mechanics top 10 DIY backyard genius awards. Who show fully sick imagination, creativity and a desire to "just do it" for fun attitude!

Also, I reckon there's a good ratio of RC'ers in that top 10

With a wingspan of 24 feet, one would say this must be the biggest RC foam airplane ever. Made of foam and constructed in a dorm room. The building of the Pink Floyd, the name given to it. Inspired hundreds of fellow RC'ers to band together and get this history making RC airplane flying.

What's even better, was a proposal to build a 50 foot version of the RC foam airplane! But it never flew. Here's the thread on RCGroups about it. ( prepare for a lot of reading, the thread is 4 years old! )

Here's a well edited and "fun" short video about two RC cars chasing a RC helicopter.
Enjoy!

Missed out on another RC event? Don't worry RCCars.com has you covered. With their coverage of the recent 2009 Hobbyrama. They took heaps of video and pics of RC and full size cars. To feed your need for RC.
Enjoy!

RC Car Death Race!

You must have seen the movie, Death Race. About a bunch of prisoners that race around a obstacle race course in cars armed to the teeth. With the simple objective of killing anyone that gets in your way.

Well we can now live the dream or nightmare. Depends who you are, in RC form.

At the recent baseball game between the Dodgers and D-backs during the sixth inning. A RC airplane or more precisely a Parkzone Su-26m Sukhoi started buzzing the crowd and players.

As you will see in the video the crowd loved it but not the players obviously some baseball players just need to take a chill pill.
It's not the wised thing to do I admit, but still it was a Air Force Night!

It takes me a good hour to get to work,..... one way. Which can stuff up a potential good day of flying after work.
There's nothing worse than being stuck in a traffic jam, when there's not a breath of wind to be found and I've charged my lipo ready to go the previous day.
To keep me sane through those tough times I listen to these guys on my iPod. Who give good updates on RC flying events, information on RC shop deals and interviews with pilots and people in the hobby industry.
Give them a go!

Here's another fully sick RC'er that races "big" cars for a living. His name Scott Speed. From formula 1 to NASCAR. No matter want skills they have ( see Tony Stewart ) they still play with RC cars :)
